Tony and Deb know what they’re talking about when it comes to shuttling and riding on the Pureora Timber Trail. They’ve first-hand knowledge and expertise; hacking through blackberry and icy river crossings in 2010; these are now replaced with spectacular trails and suspension bridges.

Having competed in every Trail Blazer race there and shuttling and riding The Great Lakes trails in Taupo, The Old Ghost Road in the south and Moerangi in the north they know their customers’ needs.

Your accommodation at the Timber Trail Farmstay homestead is very comfortable, private and peacefully located on a 2,000 ha working beef and sheep farm. It’s located only 45 mins drive to Pureora Village at the northern end and 30 mins to Ongarue Village is at the southern end of the trail and also 45mins to Piropiro Camp at the midway point.

There are large living areas to relax in with 2 log fires and an outdoor brazier. Inside are 2 bathrooms, 2 toilets, fully equipped kitchen and dining area, sunny outdoor BBQ area, gardens and an outdoor shower and tub. You’ll enjoy the hearty and healthy home cooked meals. Breakfasts and lunch ingredients are provided for you to prepare at your leisure. BYO refreshments. Sleeps up to 15pp.

Tony and Deb are experienced trail and mountain bike riders. They began riding the Pureora Forest Park trails in 2010 and today work with DOC maintaining, developing and extending the riding experience for trail users. They can also organise extra trail rides on nearby private trails, helibiking and links to the Great Lakes Trails in Taupo.

Skill level / recommended riding time

Riders with average experience and fitness level, allow 5 hours riding time for the 41k journey from the start at Pureora Village at the northern end to get to Piropiro Camp at half way. Riders should also allow 5 hours riding time for the 46k journey from either of these half way points to get to the southern end in Ongarue.

The second half of the trail is recommended for riders at beginners level for its undulatingto downhill gradient.
