This spectacular 88km trail will offer riders the chance to experience the rich heritage of the Pureora Forest Park. Cyclists will ride through forest terrain, passing 800-year-old trees, a bush tramway and historic timber-milling sites. Situated within a three hour drive of Auckland, Hamilton, Rotorua and Taupo, the trail will cater for all levels of cycling ability.
Blackfern Lodge and the The Forge make a unique and heavenly country retreat. Situated in the heart of the North Island, in the legendary King Country. Majestic waterfall, meandering stream and native bush surroundings ensure the lodge will enchant you.
Skill level / recommended riding time
Riders with average experience and fitness level, allow 5 hours riding time for the 41k
journey from the start at Pureora Village at the northern end to get to the Black Fern Lodge
or Piropiro Camp at half way. Riders should also allow 5 hours riding time for the 46k
journey from either of these half way points to get to the southern end in Ongarue.
The second half of the trail is recommended for riders at beginners level for its undulating
to downhill gradient.
